George Soros contributed $2 million to defeat Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio. Along with other big-name contributors, he was pushing heavily for the overthrow of the sheriff, because of Arpaio’s strong support of immigration control and the border wall. This is Soros’ largest contribution to law enforcement campaigns over the last several months. Arpaio lost his re-election bid.
This is just another effort by George Soros to defeat local prosecutors around the country and replace them with those who support criminal justice reform measures, promoted by Soros. Soros group is currently trying to defeat sitting district attorney’s in Houston’s Harris County. Soros has contributed over $1 million to this campaign. The Arizona Sheriff’s race was one of Soros major focuses and 2016, because he felt the sheriff was too focused on preventing illegal immigration, and shirked his duties to protect the citizens of Maricopa County. Soros decided to focus on defeating Joe Arpaio, because he felt that for the past two decades he has been violating civil rights and abusing his office in Arizona.
Soros continues his efforts to find programs that will reform the legal and justice system in the United States. He is trying to get the system to focus more on equal rights no matter what a person’s race, ethnic background or gender. With the feet of Joe Arpaio in November, Soros is encouraged to continue his push for reforms in the system.
Soros believes that many law enforcement agencies, including the criminal justice system is stacked against minorities including African-Americans, Latinos and other minorities.
