Back in the late 1990s a businessman by the name of Rick Scott was busy defrauding U.S. taxpayers out of millions of dollars by way of Medicare fraud. Scott was CEO of Columbia/HCA, a network of healthcare facilities that used shady billing tactics to line the pockets of corporate executives.
True to course, slippery Rick Scott stymied prosecutors, invoked the 5th Amendment and resigned his position before he could get fitted with a conviction and an orange jumpsuit. By 2011 he was the new governor of Florida.
Scott used what he learned by playing fast-and-loose with huge amounts of money to grease the wheels for his two campaigns for Florida’s top job — now Scott wants to be a United States Senator. It seems he is once again up to his old tricks. Find out more about the endorsed candidate at End Citizens United
A group called End Citizens United has filed a complaint with the U.S. election commission charging that Scott is violating the rules. It appears that Scott’s campaign is illegally benefiting from millions of dollars raised by an ultra-right super PAC called New Republican.
A super PAC can raise and donate as much money as it wants to any candidate, but it cannot coordinate directly with the that campaign. That appears to be what Rick Scott has been doing.
It’s just another example of Big Money in politics corrupting the system. End Citizens United was founded to combat exactly that. The group is determined to get Big Money out of the American election systems once and for all.
End Citizens United is a grassroots organization formed in 2015. It has raised some $35 million ahead of the 2018 midterm elections to support candidates who have come out strongly in favor of campaign finance reform. ECU raised the money it did by accepting only small donations that average just $14 each. It accepts no corporate cash or huge donations from greedy oligarchs and billionaires.
End Citizens United officials say that Rick Scott is a classic example of wealthy elites with dicey track records of greed and corruption who now want even more power by taking high places in government office. Learn more: http://endcitizensunited.org/our-team/
